Larry Postaer Shares 50 Years of Advertising Tales in New Book, 'Pickett, Plunkett and Puckett.'

Santa Monica, Calif., — Oct. 11, 2011 — A penchant for the written word early in life foreshadowed an accomplished advertising career spanning six decades and a bounty of anecdotes, as told in the new memoir "Pickett, Plunkett and Puckett. My 50 Years in Advertising." Author Larry Postaer recounts his first three clients, whose alliterative surnames comprise the book title, as well as encounters with some of marketing's most illustrious names along the journey that led to co-founding RPA, one of the largest independent advertising agencies on the West Coast.

Postaer's prose tells of his humble beginnings as an ad salesman on the University of Missouri Journalism School's daily and his first professional copywriting job in the advertising sweatshop of a Chicago department store. Postaer's next career move, where he cranked out Sears catalog pages teamed up with a layout person on the other end of a pneumatic tube, eventually led to his first agency experience, where he soon found himself in the unlikely position of being the youngest creative director in America.

Postaer was later recruited by a large national agency to work on major brand names, including McDonald's and Bud Light. Finally, after a move to L.A., he partnered with Gerry Rubin to form RPA, supervising creative on the ever-growing Honda car brand, a client he calls "once-in-a-lifetime."

Says Postaer, advertising provided him "an attainable avenue of self-expression," a point he illustrates with examples from his long career, along with musings about the value of mentors, finding work in a tough job market, working with and selling creative to clients and winning new business.

"Pickett, Plunkett and Puckett. My 50 Years in Advertising" is available at bookstores and Amazon Kindle.
